START: Background
Beartrack was founded by John "Bear" Lilly, a former Special Agent with the California Department of Justice.
John began his career in the late 60's as a police officer in the San Francisco Bay Area, first serving the city of Los Altos, CA before helping to start the first police department in the East Bay suburb of Pleasant Hill, CA.
After rising through the ranks to become a detective in the early 70's, John moved to the California Department of Justice (CA DoJ) in San Francisco, where he worked directly for the State Attorney General's Office. |
This was an exciting time for the Department of Justice, and John took part in such investigations as the "Zebra" murders, the SLA, the Chowchilla kidnappings, the Weathermen Underground, and the eruption of radicalized prison gangs.
John's bureau also handled general cases involving:
