START: Background [continued]

In the 80's, John pursued semi-retirement and moved from suburban Sacramento to the rural Lake Tahoe area.

John's experience in Tahoe City engaged his interests in firefighting and rescue work. During that time, John revived the Alpine Meadows Fire Department, brought it up to CA State Fire Marshall standards and raised Firehouse 56, that stands today.

A road trip to Jackson Hole in the 90's found John combining his "people skills" with his desire to live in the wilderness, resulting in a company providing guided tours to Yellowstone visitors.

Fascinated with the wild grizzly bears in Yellowstone Park, John named the tour company Beartrack. Clients and locals started referring to John as "Bear," and the nickname stuck.

In 2005, while on a trip to California, John was surprised to see how much things had changed outside "The Hole."

With so many new and interesting things to investigate, John brought the Beartrack name and spirit back to California with him in 2006.

Today, Beartrack Investigations is run by John and his family. While managing offices in the SF Bay Area and Sacramento, Beartrack still maintains their headquarters deep in the Sierra Mountains near Truckee, CA... to "keep it real."
